Corporate Level Trainer, Facilitator, Coach, Professor, and Author

Who is Steven Cerri?

Welcome, I'm Steven Cerri. I'm an aeronautical engineer and a geophysicist, with an MBA. I have made the transition from engineer to general manager. I know the twists and turns that make for a successful engineering/technical/management/leadership career. And I know where the pitfalls are.

I've been training on-site for over 10 years and now I'm moving my training online to reach more professionals. Everyone needs a career safety net and I was lucky enough to have mentors along my career path. At this site, in this place, I am your mentor along your career path.

 - - - - -

I'm an engineer, a scientist, and a businessman. I have a B.S in Aeronautical Engineering, an M.S. in Geophysics, and an MBA.

I've advanced from engineer/individual contributor to task lead, to vice president of engineering, to general manager/ceo. I've been where you are.

And I know what got me success and what I taught those that were on my teams, is that that the technical component of our careers is only one necessary piece for our success. But it is not sufficient. It's critical that we are more than technical.

I want to give the engineers, scientists, and technologists of the world the benefit of my experience BEFORE they make their own mistakes through trial and error and use up their careers in frustration and disappointment because their careers didn't turn out the way they wanted.

I've been training early to mid-career professionals on-site for over 10 years and now I want to bring my training programs online to teach and help even more engineers, scientists, and technologists.  I will only teach you what I have used in my own career that has worked for me.  If I haven't used it successfully, you won't hear about it.

These are principals independent of engineering, scientific, or technological discipline because they are based on organizational and human fundamentals.  I know what I teach works because it's been working for those I have taught for over 10 years.

Gaining "experiential knowledge" today is not only about your present... it is about your present AND your future.

I WANT TO BE ON THE 2025 PRIORITY LIST!

If Gaining Experience Fast Important to You...

Then, you're in the right place!

 Do you find that ...

  • your career isn't what you thought it was going to be?
  • your career has stalled?
  • you are not listened to in meetings.
  • you are not included in important team decisions?
  • that you are not getting the cool technical tasks?
  • that you can't seem to understand what your new lead or management job is all about?
  • you are having difficulty keeping your job for a long period of time?

Whether you are...

  • a young engineer, scientist, or technologists just out of school entering the workforce, or
  • a new lead or manager, or
  • a mid-career engineer / individual contributor, or
  • an experienced senior technical engineer / individual contributor, or
  • a subject matter expert (SME),

This site is designed to give you concrete experiential-based skills, advice, mentoring, coaching, and knowledge that you won't get in the usual places... and... at a much faster pace than you could get on-the-job.

Your technical curricula did not prepare you for what happens when you join an organization. Companies hire you for your technical ability, but after a time, they want something else... and that something else includes your...

  • ability to contribute effectively on a team;
  • ability to communicate effectively with your colleagues, management, and non-technical customers;
  • ability to compromise positively;
  • ability to work cross-functionally;
  • ability to make effective presentations;

to name just a few. These skills are not only expected if you are a payroll employee.... they are also expected if you are a contract employee or consultant, working on-site, remotely, or in a mix.

Most of these skills were not even on your radar when you joined the world of work. And most of the typical training programs seem to give you information but it doesn't necessarily translate into behaviors and actions that you are comfortable with or willing to employ.  Here all of that will change!

Thousands of Engineers Have Accelerated Their Careers with Steven Cerri's Training Programs

Leslie Buchanan

Program Manager at a Major Aerospace Company

The material Steven taught seemed like unconventional wisdom to me. Within a year of taking Steven’s class I made a big advancement in my company. I moved up into a lead role. Within a year of taking Steven’s class I was given direct reports. I’ve applied the things I learned in Steven’s classes and coaching and mentoring and it’s worked so well.

Raymond Wolfgang

Electrical Engineer/Manager at National Laboratory

In the time I’ve taken Steven’s courses, my performance reviews have gone from those I didn’t particularly like to now receiving a top 15% rating.  I attribute much of that success to Steven’s training, insights, perspectives, and practical guidance.  He doesn’t just teach “one thing”.  His teaching spans almost all aspects of the interpersonal components of a technical career and it works.

Uma Verma

Aeronautical Engineer at NASA Ames Laboratory

When I shook Steven’s hand, I had no idea I was meeting one of the finest mentors I’d ever have. Steven’s advice is simple and relevant and it has fundamentally changed the way I approach my entire career.

Professor Gary Hansen,

Associate Dean, Technology Management Programs
University of California, Santa Barbara

What makes Steven unique and powerfully effective in his teaching for our program is that he combines two technical degrees and an MBA with twenty years of technical and technical business experience. ...This means that when he teaches technology-business management and leadership, his courses are rooted in practice as well as in theory. Our students truly appreciate this mixture.

Five Myths of Management

Moving into management seems to be the dream of many engineers. And yet, once there, the dream isn't all it's cracked up to be. This article will show you the myths that many engineers, as well as manager, hold that more often leads to failure than to success and what to do instead.

Being Right or Effective

You have been taught that being right and having the "right" answer is what your education and your career are all about. But what would happen if you discover that you want the right answer, pushing to be right can actually damage your career? How would you navigate that bind?

Art and Skill of Delegation

Most approaches to delegating don't account for the most important component... you. Delegating is a skill AND an art. Whether you are a manager, a team lead, or an individual contributor assigning tasks to various team members, delegating effectively is a must-have skill.

Steven Cerri's Book

The Fully Integrated Engineer

Combining Technical Ability and Leadership Prowess
In a nutshell, this book is about you.  All engineers, at some point in their careers, get in their own way. They have attitudes and behaviors that seem to block their advancement and success. Sometimes you see these attitudes and behaviors clearly, and sometimes you can't seem to figure out what is causing your career to stall. This book will teach you how to identify those limiting attitudes and behaviors, and if you choose to, how to substitute empowering and successful behaviors and attitudes in their place without having to constantly work at it and think about it. You will learn how to make these new attitudes and behaviors "automatic".
